Imagination. The best gift any child could have.
Dance. The freest form of expression anyone could experience.
Put them together, and you have a child who could become one of the most influential leaders of the art.
It was the best part of being a child...playing princess...pretending to be a majestic fairy...or acting like Clara on Christmas morning. We envy children for their carefree attitudes, expressing whatever comes to their minds, not holding back any thoughts in fear of being judged or exposed.
Dance encourages children to use that flowing form of expression to share their thoughts, fears, hopes, and emotions in a way no other art can. Providing a stage in a safe venue, dance allows the performer to share their joy or pain through the rhythm of movement, whether with an imaginary audience during dance class or a sold out house for the season's performance. Teaching children a positive outlet for expression, ballet class could be considered a weekly therapy session, an hour to escape, and pretend you ARE princess for the day...just with turnout and pointed feet.
